The Problem With Other Oils
Many other essential oil companies extract essential oils from plants using high heat, high pressure, and chemical solvents. Although the final product may still contain the aroma of the plant, these harsh processing methods destroy the therapeutic qualities of the oils. Using lesser-quality oils for therapeutic purposes is never recommended and can actually be toxic. Another problem is that there are currently no FDA standards when it comes to labeling a bottle of essential oil. Even if an essential oil is labeled “100% Pure” or “All Natural” at a health food store, you still have no way of knowing the quality of that oil. If a bottle of oil contains just 5% essential oil, by law it can be labeled as 100% Pure Essential Oil! If the bottle is $8 or $12, it has most likely been mass produced very cheaply, with very little attention to the way it was processed.
Why Young Living Essential Oils are Different
Despite the FDA having little to no control over the supplement industry, Young Living has made it its mission to provide high quality, pure, and therapeutic grade essential oils. The vast majority of essential oils on the market today are only suitable for cosmetics and perfumes. And Young Living is unique in that they own their own farms. You can even tour the Young Living distillery! Their oils are so pure, that many of them can be taken as a dietary supplement. Young Living has been providing therapeutic grade essential oils for 20 years. These oils are a result of Young Living’s strict, detailed method for producing the oils to obtain the purest, ‘un-messed-with’ plant essences. Young Living calls this their Seed to Seal ® process, where every single step from planting to bottling is detailed and controlled.
Seed to Seal
- Seed. Powerful essential oils come from seeds and plants that have been authenticated by Young Living, industry, and university experts through scientific research, field study, university partnerships, and on-site planting certification.
- Cultivate. Young Living farms, located around the world, are dedicated to perfecting the best growing and harvesting methods. Young Living experts also travel the world visiting co-op farms to verify that their growing and cultivating processes match Young Living’s high standards. These operations provide an ongoing source for essential oils that meet Young Living’s demanding quality standards.
- Distill. Combining ancient and modern techniques, Young Living is recognized as an innovator in essential oil distillation. Young Living uses a gentle, proprietary technique for steam extracting the most effective essential oils, as well as using cold pressing and resin tapping methods for select oils.
- Test. Young Living never accepts diluted, cut, or adulterated oils. To guarantee consistent quality, our oils are tested in Young Living’s own internal labs, as well as in third-party facilities, to ensure that they meet stringent specifications, exceed international standards, and contain the optimal levels of natural bioactive compounds.
- Seal. Young Living completes the Seed to Seal process in its 107,000-square-foot facility in Spanish Fork, Utah. Using state-of-the-art equipment, each essential oil is carefully bottled into protective amber glass bottles—ready to be shipped to members worldwide.
